PSHE

Parental Portal

At  Hazel Wood Infant School, we follow the ‘Jigsaw’ scheme across the whole school to provide an inclusive PSHE curriculum where children can explore six key areas – Being Me, Celebrating Difference, Dreams and Goals, Healthy Me, Relationships and Changing Me.

If you would like to find out more about what your child is learning each week we can now give you access to the Jigsaw Parent Portal. If you would like to have access to this please ask your child's class teacher for the login and access code.

The DfE has written a new RSHE (Relationships, Sex and Health Education) guidance (England) that becomes statutory from September 2026. There are minimal changes for children aged 4-7 but you may still be interested to read about the changes to make you aware as your child progresses through junior school.

At Hazel Wood, we will deliver the curriculum using the Jigsaw PSHE scheme which has been updated to reflect the new guidance. Please note that we will not be introducing the new curriculum until September 2026 and will continue to teach following the old guidelines until then.

Below is a Jigsaw guide for parents which gives information about the new RSHE guidance and how we will implement it in school.

RSHE focuses on helping young children understand themselves, build positive relationships, and develop the skills they need to stay safe and healthy. The Jigsaw scheme supports this through calm, structured and age‑appropriate lessons that encourage children to reflect, talk and learn in a supportive environment.

How Jigsaw supports RSHE in our school

The Jigsaw PSHE scheme is organised into six themes across the year—known as Puzzles. These include topics such as:

  • Being Me in My World – understanding feelings, managing emotions, and belonging
  • Celebrating Difference – kindness, respect, and friendship
  • Dreams and Goals – developing resilience and confidence
  • Healthy Me – staying safe, healthy choices, and personal hygiene
  • Relationships – caring relationships, family, and managing feelings
  • Changing Me – very simple, age‑appropriate understanding of growing and changing

Please be reassured that no sexual content is taught at infant level. In the Changing Me unit, learning focuses only on basic growing-up concepts, body awareness, and understanding changes such as getting taller or developing new skills.

We want you to feel fully informed and comfortable with what your child is learning. You can view the full updated RSHE policy and curriculum overview on our website.

We value your partnership and believe that working together with families helps children make the best start in understanding themselves and the world around them.

If you have any questions, please feel free to contact the school office.

Thank you for your continued support as we work to provide a nurturing, safe and positive learning environment for all our children.
