OPAL
As a school, we are delighted to be starting our journey with the OPAL programme. OPAL stands for Outdoor Play and Learning and is a program designed to enhance children's play experiences in school, promoting creativity, socialisation and physical activity through structured outdoor play.
OPAL recognises the benefits of play on children’s social, physical and emotional wellbeing. 20% of children’s time at school is spent at playtime. Therefore, we believe it is essential that we optimise this time to ensure that quality play opportunities are available to all children.
At Hazel Wood Infant school, we are very fortunate to have grounds that will help to facilitate a range of play opportunities, from wooded areas to sandpits and mud kitchens. Our grounds will create opportunities to allow our children to be imaginative, curious, investigate and explore whilst enjoying their playtimes.
The children and staff attend weekly OPAL assemblies, which gives everyone the opportunity to discuss their playtimes and share ideas.
What will OPAL bring to our school?
- Children who are ready to learn
- More resilient children who rise to challenges
- Inclusive play times where all children follow their interests and play styles
- Curious children who ask What if…? I wonder…? And Why…?
- Positive behaviour and children who are supportive of one another
- And of course, playtimes are lots and lots of FUN!
Our journey with OPAL has only just begun and we look forward to the adventures ahead.
Thank you for all the donations from OPAL bingo we have received so far.
