    Dear Parent and Carers

It gives me great pleasure to share with you all the outcome of our recent OFSTED inspection which took place on 5th and 6th December 2023. The report will be available online in about 8 days but we are allowed to share this with you all today.

As you will see from the report, OFSTED has rated Hazel Wood Infant School as OUTSTANDING in all five categories with an overall effectiveness of OUTSTANDING.

The report really captures the essence of our school and says:

“The schools determination for pupils to experience a ‘journey of opportunities’ means they thrive and flourish.”

The report recognises that our curriculum and values form the basis for “consistently high expectations for pupils learning and behaviour.” OFSTED also recognised that “behaviour is exemplary at all times”.

    The report identified that

“children get off to a really strong start in early years”,

“that disadvantaged pupils , including those with special educational needs and/or disabilities are extremely well supported  and as a result achieve very well.”

    “reading is taught exceptionally well”

These are just a few quotes from our report please do take the time to read the full report.

We're particularly proud of this achievement as recent changes to the Ofsted inspection framework has meant that achieving this outcome has become much more challenging.

I would like to say a big thank you to all our children, families, staff and governors for their continued support and hard work.

Mark Alderson our chair of governors said:

“This really is an achievement to be extremely proud of.  It is testament to all of the hard work and dedication by the teaching staff and everyone involved.  It serves to reinforce what we already knew, that Hazel Wood Infants School is an amazing place for our children to start their journey in education.  On behalf of the Board of Governors, I would like to congratulate, and thank, Jane, Hannah and all of the staff for their commitment and drive to get this result.  Having seen it first hand, I know just how much effort and how many long hours went into it.”

We are also not complacent in receiving this grade and will continue to maintain this high standard.

  • Save Our Play Trail

    Fri 10 Nov 2023

Yesterday all of KS1 children met with Miss Phillips and the school council A debate was held  to try and persuade Miss Phillips not to knock down the play trail. The KS1 children had all written letters giving reason to save the play trial .

Miss Phillips and the school council heard many reasons:

    • it would not be safe to have lorries coming into the school ground
    • what would happen to the insects and foxes as their homes would be lost
    • if we chop down the trees this would mean the leaves could not give us oxygen
    • the children  would not have anywhere to play and exercise

Some children agreed and said that we could use the money to fix the school roof.

Miss Phillips listened to everyone and then voted on the final decision.

The decision was to not build the houses and the play trail and field are staying.
